how do you know which set of cookery is the best on the market to buy?
and added to this frenzy, i just now see while thumbing thru a new magazine now paula dean has a new cook ware set..and for $99.00.ouch!!! among’s the home shopping networks, and numerous sales ad’s.how does one know which is the best set of cookery to buy?
The ones endorsed by famous cooks like Paula Deen are usually the better ones. Sorry to tell ya – a starter set, usually about 5 pieces including 2 lids, is normally around $99. Sometimes on QVC they will run specials and either lower the price on the set of 5 or throw in a couple extras. Try QVC.com.

Stay away from anything with a celebrity name attached to it, Q.V.C. etc.
Some of the best cookware for home use is Revereware its available at all your discount stores Wal-Mart, Sears, Target etc. It is stainless steel with copper bottoms. If matching pieces is not an issue then hit the yard sales and thrift stores.
I am a pro and I have a lot of tools I got from thrift stores, etc.
For pots and pans look for stainless steel with no signs of corrosion or rust, if it has rust its a poor grade of steel). Cast Iron is always a good value. A heavy cast Iron pan that will outlive you is a must for any complete kitchen. You can get them for under 10.00 at any wal-mart type store. Stay away from boutique type kitchen stores and the shops in major shopping Malls.
If you have friends who work in the food business you can buy professional grade cookery for wholesale prices. Just have him/her order through their suppliers.

If they are a heavy grade stainless steel, then you got the better ones. I love my pots and pans, they are fab-o. I am partial to revere or farberware for the price.

I totally understand your frustrations and being somewhat overwhelmed by this major purchase but lets simplify it, tailored just for you, because that’s what this purchase is all about. It’s about how you cook, what you cook, what you need, use and are comfortable with. Paula Deen is great, but maybe her cookery sets are for people who cook or bake several times a day, spanning the culinary world, every day and are made and priced that way. Restaurant quality products are the same way, made to be used a thousand times a day, take the heat of the commercialized dishwashers, their strong chemical detergents and high washing cycle temperatures, you don’t have that at home. Do you want to spend 2000$ for a set to last you a life time, or do you just need a few, really good quality pieces to start out with? I pick my pots and pans separately, in comparison to those home decorators that say "don’t buy your furniture in cookie cutter sets", I buy my pots and pans according to how I’m going to use them and in seperate purchases. For example, I love to saute, so my saute pans are very expensive and will out last…..probably me, but baking is not my thing so I spend less money on those pans. I love to feel the handles of all my pans, they have to feel comfortable and fit my small hand size, so no, I do not order cookery online, but that’s just me. I love a thick bottomed pan with even heat distribution for my sauces, my dutch oven has to have a warranty and high heat resistance because I use them all the time. So, without making this a novel, I would say narrow your search to what YOU like to cook, spend the money on those pans and buy quality items, over time. You don’t have to buy them all at once. I hope this helps you out today to pick out the best pots and pans that fit YOUR style of cooking needs, usage and daily lifestyle. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
